Planting Native Species
Installing Sustainable Irrigation
Completed Restoration
Project Overview
The Mission Plaza Garden Restoration was a comprehensive project aimed at revitalizing the historic gardens surrounding our city's most iconic landmark. Over the years, the gardens had become overgrown and unsustainable, requiring significant intervention to restore their beauty and ecological value.
Native Plant Restoration
Replaced invasive species with 45 different native California plants that are drought-tolerant and support local pollinators.
Smart Irrigation
Installed a new drip irrigation system that reduces water usage by 60% compared to the previous sprinkler system.
Educational Features
Added 12 educational signs identifying plant species and explaining their ecological importance to the community.
Accessibility Improvements
Created accessible pathways and raised garden beds to ensure everyone can enjoy the restored gardens.
Transformation: Before & After
Overgrown, unsustainable planting with invasive species
Vibrant, sustainable native garden with educational features
